| Minimum age | Full PT and PTT applicants should follow the age rule shown in the application instructions for the category they use. |
| Education | Current PT and PTT sources require high school graduation or equivalent. Proposed 2026 PTT rulemaking would allow enrollment in a program of instruction leading to high school graduation or equivalent. |
| Background check | No separate routine fingerprinting step is listed for every applicant. Follow the application workflow for any additional fingerprinting instructions. |
| Fingerprinting | Full PT applicants must submit a complete set of fingerprints and a Nevada Department of Public Safety waiver form; the Board forwards fingerprints for state/FBI criminal-history review. PTT applicants should follow the trainee application workflow for fingerprinting details. |
| Application method | Download the applicable Board form, complete it with original signature, and mail it to the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy with the required fee and supporting documents. The current PT and PTT forms say applications cannot be returned by fax or email. Applicants who already qualify for full PT registration apply with evidence for one of the NAC 639.240 routes and fingerprints. Applicants who do not qualify under those routes generally apply as a PTT under NAC 639.242 to acquire qualifying training and experience. |
How To Start
- Choose the full Pharmaceutical Technician route or the Pharmaceutical Technician in Training route.
- Download the applicable Nevada Board form and mail it with original signature, fee, and support documents.
- For full registration, provide evidence for one accepted NAC 639.240 route plus fingerprints.
- Use PTT registration to gain qualifying training or experience if you do not yet qualify for full registration.
- Renew by October 31 of even-numbered years and complete Nevada law CE plus any in-service training.
Trainee Or Entry Path
Pharmaceutical Technician in Training registration; provisional PT registration pending FBI report
Current PTT sources require age 18 or older, high school graduation or equivalent, and on-the-job training/experience commensurate with employment duties. A PTT application also requires employment or program information. NRS permits provisional PT registration for otherwise-qualified PT applicants while the FBI report is pending.
PT and PTT registrations expire October 31 of even-numbered years unless renewed, and fees are not pro-rated. Check the current PTT application for practical-hour deadlines.
A PTT can qualify for full PT registration after successful completion of at least 1,500 hours of training and experience as a registered PTT in Nevada licensed pharmacies, confirmed by the managing pharmacist.
Certification And Training
Certification
Nevada PT registration routes do not list PTCB or NHA certification as a standalone route. PTCB or NHA continuing education may substitute for Nevada's biennial in-service training requirement, but initial registration depends on Nevada's accepted route categories.
Training
Nevada registration routes focus on Board-approved or ASHP-approved training, 1,500 confirmed practical hours, qualifying out-of-state practice, or federal training. A PTCB-recognized online course alone is not a Nevada initial-registration route.
Fees
| Initial application | $50 non-refundable initial registration fee for PT or PTT; credit/debit card payments carry a 5% processing fee. |
|---|---|
| Background check | No separate background-check fee is listed; follow the application payment workflow. |
| Fingerprinting | $39 Board payment for fingerprint-background processing; local law enforcement fingerprinting fees may vary. |
| Renewal | $50 biennial renewal for pharmaceutical technician or pharmaceutical technician in training registration. |
| Late or reinstatement | NAC 639.220 describes a late-renewal penalty of 50% of the renewal fee for each period of delinquency, in addition to renewal fees. |
| Other | 5% processing fee. |
Renewal And Continuing Education
Biennial. PT and PTT registrations expire October 31 of even-numbered years. Registrations expiring October 31, 2026 may renew online beginning September 1, 2026.
Technicians and technicians in training who live or practice in Nevada complete one hour of approved Nevada law CE before renewal. If employed in a Nevada pharmacy, they also complete 12 hours of in-service training during the two-year period immediately before renewal. PTCB or NHA recertification CE may substitute for the 12-hour in-service training, but not for the Nevada law CE.
Scope And Supervision Note
Nevada sets different technician scope and supervision rules for Pharmaceutical Technicians and Pharmaceutical Technicians in Training.
NAC 639.250 sets context-specific supervision limits, including different limits for hospitals, non-hospital pharmacies, telepharmacies/remote sites, and nondispensing pharmacies.
Technicians may not perform actions requiring judgmental decisions about drugs, prescription interpretation, or preparation instructions, and may not take new prescription or chart orders by telephone.

Pharmacy Tech Scholarâ„ is an online PTCB-recognized education/training course. State requirements vary and may change. The course does not replace state applications, Board decisions, PTCB decisions, employer requirements, or other state-specific steps. Use the applicable Board and PTCB information before purchasing course access.
