Pharmacy technician provisional certification
An applicant who has not yet satisfied the national-certification requirement may receive provisional certification if the applicant meets the other certification requirements.
Provisional certification is valid for no more than 18 months and is not renewable. The Board may consider a one-time, fee-waived, 9-month hardship extension when requested at least 60 days before expiration and supported by qualifying hardship criteria.
The provisional certificant must obtain and maintain qualifying national certification, then apply for full Board-issued pharmacy technician certification.

Renewal And Continuing Education

Colorado requires technicians to maintain active certification and complete the CE/renewal requirements of the certifying organization. Colorado does not set a separate state CE hour total in the Board CE guidance. To renew Colorado state certification, the technician must maintain active certification with a Board-approved nationally recognized certifying organization. Colorado sets supervision limits and majority-full-certification rules for pharmacies using multiple technicians.
A pharmacist may supervise up to six persons who are pharmacy interns or pharmacy technicians, with no more than two pharmacy interns. In central fill pharmacy settings, a pharmacist may supervise up to eight such persons, with no more than two interns.
If three or more pharmacy technicians are on duty, the majority must be fully certified by the Board, and any technician who is not fully certified must hold provisional certification.
