Trainee Or Entry Path

Pharmacy technician-in-training permit

The permit is for a person working in a Wyoming pharmacy under the direction of the pharmacist-in-charge while studying to become PTCB- or NHA-certified for full pharmacy technician licensure.

Valid for two years from original issuance; limited to the sponsoring pharmacy unless a sponsor transfer form is submitted.

The permit holder studies for PTCB or NHA ExCPT certification, then applies for full Wyoming pharmacy technician licensure after meeting the certification requirement.

Certification And Training

Certification

Wyoming does not require PTCB specifically because NHA ExCPT is also accepted. Full pharmacy technician applicants must provide evidence of current certification from PTCB or NHA ExCPT.

Training

Wyoming's full technician license is tied to current national certification rather than a separate Wyoming-approved training program. The trainee permit supports supervised on-the-job training before certification, and PTCB has its own education/training or work-experience eligibility pathway.

Fees

Initial application$50 for pharmacy technician licensure; $15 for pharmacy technician-in-training permit.
Background check$50 Board fingerprint/background processing fee; local fingerprinting facility fees may also apply.
Fingerprinting$50 Board processing fee, plus any separate fee charged by the fingerprinting location.
Renewal$50 per year for pharmacy technician licensure renewal.
Late or reinstatementThe late fee is $35 for pharmacy technician renewal applications submitted after December 31. Check Board instructions for lapsed-license restoration or reinstatement timing.

Renewal And Continuing Education

Annual, December 31.

10 hours of ACPE-accredited CPE during the previous license period; first renewal period exempt. Wyoming technician licenses renew annually by December 31. Current Board CE guidance and Chapter 6 require 10 ACPE-accredited CPE hours reported to NABP CPE Monitor, with no carryforward. Registered pharmacy technicians are exempt from CPE for the first license renewal period.

Scope And Supervision Note

Wyoming rules define permitted technician and technician-in-training functions and set explicit pharmacist-judgment tasks that technicians may not perform.

No current general Wyoming pharmacist-to-technician ratio is listed; technicians and technicians-in-training still work within the state's supervision and task-limit rules.

Technicians and technicians-in-training may not receive new verbal prescription orders, evaluate or interpret prescriptions, obtain clinical clarifications, review clinical data, offer counseling, or counsel patients.
